Since 1967, Venturers, Explorers, Sea Scouts, Mariners and Senior Girl Scouts have gathered each August for the annual MAKAHIKI.  Boy Scouts, minimum age 14, may also attend.

MAKAHIKI is a weekend full of competition, fun and friendship.  Held on the shores of the glacial lakes of Northern Indiana, MAKAHIKI features Swimming, Canoeing, Row Boating and other fun water related activities.

Land based events include Marlinspike Seamanship, Drilling and Maneuvering, Tug-o-War and a new twist on Beach Volleyball.

Keeping with the Hawaiian theme, a Luau and Hawaiian Dress competition are also a part of the Weekend.  The Friday night “Talent Show” goes beyond the normal campfire skit to showcase the creativity, talent and showmanship of today’s youth.

Scouts come from as far away as Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and even St Louis Missouri to attend MAKAHIKI.

How to qualify for Early Bird price:

Get the “Early Bird” price for Scouts by doing ALL of the following:

  1. paying the $50 Early Bird Deposit for each Scout by February 6.
  2. make the final payment AND turn in the name of the “Early Bird” Scouts by May 8.

Get the “Early Bird” price for adults by paying for them AND turning in their names by May 8.  There is no deposit for adults.

Money without names does not qualify you for the Early Bird price.

to your unit’s Summer Camp Contact.
Merit Badge and
Activity Fees
before May 8. varies A few activites and merit badges have extra fees.  The
most common are shotgun ($40), ATV ($40), and
golf ($25).  These will show up on your Merit Badge and
Activity Spreadsheet.


Discount Explanation
Brother Discount ONLY APPLIES TO ANTHONY WAYNE AREA COUNCIL SCOUTS.  The first Scout pays the full fee.  Additional brothers will receive a $25 discount each.  This discount can be applied across sessions, and across Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.  Example:  a family has a Boy Scout and a Cub Scout.  The Boy Scout pays the full fee.  The Cub Scout receives a $25 discount.  Request form must be filed.  Get the form here.
Multi-Week Discount A Scout may attend additional camp sessions for $215 each.  The additional session discount includes attending NYLT and a weeklong Red Arrowhead Adventure Program.  Multi-week discounts are not applied to OA Trail Crew or SCUBA Adventure programs.
Workership AVAILABLE TO ANTHONY WAYNE AREA COUNCIL SCOUTS ONLY.  Workerships are awarded to Scouts needing financial assistance.  Applications are due no later than March 31, 2017.  This includes Boy Scout and Cub/Webelos Scouts.  Applications will be reviewed by the Council Camping Committee and units and families will be notified prior to payment deadlines.  Find the form here.
